Through her unique combination of materials Patrice Yourdon creates sculpture that expresses the power of dual natures. By revealing the delicate face of femininity in a medium that carries the strength and weight of metal, the work challenges the viewer's ability to make easy assumptions: delicacy can encompass strength, female does not completely deny male.
Using sewn forms which are then embedded with hundreds of metal screws, Patrice creates pieces that have a relationship to armour, at once protective and beautiful and which connect with the vulnerability in ouselves and our world.
The surprise of the illusion of softness before the discovery of the sharp texture of the work creates an initial ripple of humor, a delight in finding a different way to see an ordinary familiar object.
